Position Summary

The Lobo Transfer Pathways Program, under the direction of the Office of Advising Strategies (OAS), is seeking an innovative and creative thinker who is excited and passionate about joining a team dedicated to a continuous and evolving focus on improving dual credit/concurrent enrollment and transfer student experiences. This position supports the institution’s commitment to make earning a bachelor’s degree accessible and attainable in a streamlined and efficient manner through the support of early and proactive outreach and advisement. This position will also support the creation, maintenance, and delivery of student-centered, advisement-driven, recruitment, retention, and mentorship programs and initiatives.

UNM is re-envisioning approaches to dual credit and transfer opportunities and this position will evolve alongside higher education trends based on current data and research. Flexibility, being able to reflect critically on advisement practices, and embracing change are necessary elements of the position. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to creating a climate and environment for dual credit/concurrent enrollment and transfer students that is warm, empowering, and instills a sense of belonging in the Lobo community.

Position expectations:

  • Create and maintain academic relationships and partnerships with secondary education institutions and other higher education institutions
  • Provide input on and participate in the development, design, and implementation of outreach, recruitment, retention, and mentorship programs and initiatives for dual credit/concurrent enrollment and transfer students
  • Participate in recruitment and outreach events/visits at secondary and higher education institutions
  • Collaborate with multiple UNM departments, staff, and faculty members
  • Ensure a smooth transition for students to UNM
  • Augment the student support systems for students transitioning to UNM
  • Work to eliminate/minimize systematic barriers/constraints Dual credit students encounter as the navigate the UNM system
  • Develop and deliver informational presentations to small and large groups of students, parents, and community members as well as staff and faculty from higher and secondary education institutions
  • Provide support for UNM Transfer Pathways Program and evolving transfer programs/initiatives\
  • Provide support for maintaining data and analyzing statistical information to both dual credit/concurrent enrollment and transfer trends
  • Coordinate the Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment Program, including:

o Creating and maintaining Dual Credit Master Agreements between high schools and UNM

o Coordinating the application and registration processes for dual credit/concurrent enrollment students

o Preparing and providing enrollment and grade reports for partnering secondary education institutions

o Supporting high school students in making higher education connections and planning for their higher education academic experiences

o Connecting high school students to discipline-specific academic advisors, integrated advisors, and faculty advisors as appropriate for a high school student’s individual dual credit/concurrent enrollment plan

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Experience working as an undergraduate advisor at a 4-year institution
  • Experience providing academic advisement from start to finish of an undergraduate degree program
  • Experience with coordinating peer mentoring programs and/or student success programming
  • Experience providing advisement to prospective students
  • Experience working with parents/guardians of students
  • Experience working with partners from multiple higher education institutions and/or secondary education institution
  • Strong listening, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Advanced coordination and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving a diverse student population
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Ability to plan, assess, and evaluate programs
