Position Summary

The UNM Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking an Academics Coordinator for our Medical Student Clerkship. Successful candidate will join our Office of Education as the administrator of the Behavioral Sciences Phase I block- second year, The Psychiatry Clerkship Phase II- third year, Psychiatric Sub-internship and Electives Phase III - fourth year, medical student training. This person supports the faculty Director of Medical Student Education. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for:

*Coordinating and administering the Psychiatry Clerkship, a required four - week rotation, that runs 12 times and serves approximately 100 students per year.
*Coordinating and administering the Psychiatry Phase III Sub-Intern and elective rotations, four-week rotations that run all year- busier in summer and fall- and serves approximately 10 students per year, both UNM students and visiting students.
*Coordinating visiting medical student rotations, including review of applications, communication with students and the School of Medicine, orientation, and coordination of grading with students’ home institutions.
*Extensive scheduling of didactics and clinical education activities.
*Coordination of assessments with the Office of Assessment and Learning, and proctoring of student assessments.
*Collecting evaluations and preparing grade reports.
*Maintaining curriculum information in One45 and Brightspace web-based software.
*Providing support to faculty preceptors and lecturers.
*Providing support to and cross-training with other members of the Office of Education team, including the Psychiatry residency program.
*Performing accounting activities such as purchases (via Purchasing Card and Purchase Orders) and reimbursements (via Chrome River).
*Performing a variety of administrative tasks, such as filing, preparation of reports and correspondence.
*Setting up for events, to include transporting materials across campus and setting up and cleaning up education materials, computers and meals.
Successful candidate will have outstanding interpersonal skills; ability to work as a collaborative team member within a diverse staff in a busy and ever-changing environment; ability to work independently and communicate in a timely and effective manner; demonstrated diplomacy and flexibility; have a keen eye for detail and excel in creating and editing correspondence and documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Experience working with faculty, residents, and/or medical students
  • Experience with or knowledge of medical education
  • Experience planning, developing and delivering curricula
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Experience creating and maintaining complex schedules and databases
  • Experience coordinating events, conferences, and/or educational programs
  • Experience gathering data, compiling information, and preparing reports
  • Experience with and knowledge of UNM systems, software, policies and procedures
