Position Summary

As anationally accredited program with strong educational component in TheUniversity of New Mexico School of Medicine, the Office of the MedicalInvestigator (OMI) investigates any death occurring across the state of NewMexico that is sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected or where a person is founddead and the cause of death is unknown. The OMI, which is a special programwithin the Department of Pathology, determines the cause and manner of death inthese cases, and provides formal death certification.

OMI is currently lookingfor an Accessioning Tech, Sr to join our team. Our ideal candidate will be ateam player and willing to lead. This person must be able to work with externalstakeholders and follow protocols for sanitation and safety. The candidate willbe assisting with acceptance and release of decedents as well as evidence andpersonal possessions. Our ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and beable to follow complex instruction. The position also requires data entry and ahigh degree of attention to detail.

Pleasenote: this position may include hours on the weekend and/or during holidays. Weare a 7 day a week operating organization. This position will have 2nd or 3rdshift hours, depending on shifts available. This position is part of a unionand union bid for shifts apply.

Conditions of Employment
  • May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

-Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and work effectively with others.

-Ability to provide on-the-job and technical guidance and training to staff.

-Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.

-Knowledge of legal and policy requirements related to the gathering, safekeeping and documentation of evidence.

-Knowledge of inventory management practices. Knowledge of cameras and photographic procedures.

-Ability to work with distressing and/or unpleasant odors, procedures and circumstances.

-Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
