Position Summary

The Departments of Chemical & Biological Engineering and Nuclear Engineering seek a motivated and service-oriented person to join our team as an Accountant 1.

Thisposition is responsible for accounting duties and responsibilities for bothdepartments. . Prepares financial reports from standardoperating statistics and/or financial data. Investigates and resolves problemsrelated to funds, budgets, expenditures, and/or procurement practices. Providesassistance in the development, implementation and maintenance of internalfiscal systems and procedures, applying basic concepts, methods, andtechniques. May serve as unit/area transaction initiator or requisitioner.

This also includes monitoring contracts & grants and timelyreviewing and approving departmental transactions on funded projects. Thisincludes monthly reconciliation of indices, preparing and updating monthlyfinancial statements, attending monthly financial meetings, compiling data,and developing budgets. The Accountant I is responsible for the timely reviewand approval of department transactions such as PCard reconciliations,reimbursements, and requisitions, understanding and answering questionsregarding allowable purchasing and reimbursements, and reviewing PCardstatements to ensure compliance.

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 9 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BA in Accounting or Finance
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Experience working in a University setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively at different levels of an organization
