Position Summary

The UNM Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) is seeking a knowledgeable, detail-oriented, problem-solving Accountant 1 to join our dynamic team. The CTSC is committed to bettering health by streamlining science, transforming training environments, and improving the conduct, quality, and dissemination of research from laboratories to clinical practice, and out into communities. The CTSC is a member of the national Clinical Translational Science Award (CTSA) consortium. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), along with the CTSA, promotes emphasizing community-engaged research nationally in order to facilitate the expansion of clinical research, the training of clinical researchers, and the emergence of community voice in the creation and implementation of clinical research.

The successful candidate will perform basic accounting functions such as ledger/fund maintenance, cost analysis, fund reconciliation, posting, and fiscal control of inventory. This person will prepare financial reports from standard operating statistics and/or financial data. This person will investigate and resolve problems related to funds, budgets, expenditures, and/or procurement practices. The successful candidate will also provide assistance in the development, implementation, and management of fiscal systems and procedures, applying basic concepts, methods, and techniques. And lastly, this person may serve as unit/area transaction

  1. Monitors revenue and expenses for Office of Research and CTSC unrestricted indices
  2. Constructs routine spreadsheets for projection purposes, prepares financial data for input into finance systems, and generates monthly reconciliations
  3. Prepares and processes correcting (JVs) and payroll (PHAREDS, EPAF labor distributions) entries
  4. Analyzes, reconciles, balances and maintains accounting records for the Office of Research and CTSC; develops budgets and special financial reports such as those requested by our accrediting organizations or the EVC for programs like the RAC, signature programs, etc.
  5. Review expenditure, personnel, and purchasing documents for availability of funding, mathematical correctness, and compliance with university policies and state and federal funding requirements for Office of Research and CTSC unrestricted indices
  6. Prepare monthly/quarterly invoicing for radiation safety services based on MOUs and service centers
  7. Time Entry for monthly and biweekly employees
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

TERM APPOINTMENT; FUNDING AVAILABLE THROUGH 03/31/2020; CONTINUANCE BEYOND THAT DATE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING. The CTSC is a grant funded facility and the CTSC grant has been renewed for another 5-year award.

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 9 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Suite programs

  • Experience with UNM reporting systems including Banner, MyReports, and Chrome River Experience preparing reports and other paperwork under strict deadlines; excellent writing abilities
