Position Summary

The Contract and Grant Accounting Department is part of the Financial Services Division. This department interprets and implements UNM policies related to grants and contracts, reviews and interprets policies of outside private and governmental funding agencies, ensures compliance with Federal regulations, generates regular fiscal reports on sponsored programs, guarantees revenue collections and management through automated invoicing and timely follow-up, confirms proper payment applications, ensures expenditures adhere to private and governmental regulations and guidelines, submits periodic reports as required by various funding agencies, responds to audit requests, and develops training, reports, and documentation regarding fiscal controls for departments and core offices.

Contract & Grant Accounting seeks an individual who has strong professional accounting and sponsored research experience. The preferred candidate will be a self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, the ability to establish priorities and complete projects on time, an eye for detail and the ability to effectively organize, coordinate and complete a wide range of concurrent activities. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent customer service skills, flexibility, and the ability to work independently are a must.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Experience:

  • Using financial accounting systems; added benefit for SCT Banner, MyReports, electronic draw systems;
  • Experience preparing and reviewing financial documents, including financial statements

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Sponsored Projects
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures, applicable local, state, and federal regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize work assignments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community

Education:

  • CPA/CMA Certification or MBA/MA/MS in Accounting or Finance
