The Contract and Grant Accountingdepartment has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accountant 2.Contract & Grant Accounting (CGA) is under the direction of the FinancialServices Division (FSD) and also reports to the Office of the Vice Presidentfor Research (OVPR). Our mission is to provide the University of New Mexico’sresearch community with professional expertise and quality customer service inthe management of externally sponsored funding. This department interprets andimplements UNM policies related to grants and contracts, reviews and interpretspolicies of outside private and governmental funding agencies, ensurescompliance with Federal regulations, generates regular fiscal reports onsponsored programs, guarantees revenue collections and management throughautomated invoicing and timely follow-up, confirms proper payment applications,ensures expenditures adhere to private and governmental regulations andguidelines, submits periodic reports as required by various funding agencies,responds to audit requests, and develops training, reports, and documentationregarding fiscal controls for departments and core offices.

Contract& Grant Accounting seeks an individual who has strong professionalaccounting and sponsored research experience. The preferredcandidate will be a self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, excellentorganizational skills, the ability to establish priorities and completeprojects on time, an eye for detail and the ability to effectively organize,coordinate and complete a wide range of concurrent activities. Stronganalytical and problem-solving skills, excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills, excellent customer service skills, flexibility, and theability to work independently are a must.

Responsibilities of thisposition include but are not limited to setting up new sponsored projects inour accounting system, timely review and approval of departmental transactionson sponsored projects, revenue management with timely and accurate preparationand submission of monthly invoices to sponsors, customer service to UNM’sresearch community by providing on-going assistance to departmentalaccountants, research faculty, and departmental research administrators, and closingawards in a timely fashion at the conclusion of a sponsored project period ofperformance with submission of final closeout documents to agencies by theapplicable due dates.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BA in Accounting or Finance
  • At least 3+ years Accounting experience and demonstrated ability in creating budgets and monitoring/analyzing fiscal operations
  • Proficient in MS Excel to analyze/interpret financial data and prepare financial reports
  • Experience working in Banner and MyReports (or similar financial systems) and preparing financial reports
  • Knowledge of standard and/or fund accounting principles, methods and applications
  • Knowledge of Restricted accounting (sponsored projects)
  • Ability to communicate effectively at different levels of organization
  • Ability to initiate various accounting transactions (Journal Entries, labor distribution)
  • Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to sponsored projects, including Uniform Guidance
