The Role:

As an Accountant II, you’ll be responsible for managing key financial processes and ensuring the department’s financial transactions are accurate and timely. You’ll play an integral role in accounts payable and receivable, as well as assisting with the department’s budgeting and reconciliation processes. This is a great opportunity to expand your accounting knowledge while directly contributing to the success of the UNM Real Estate Department.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Financial Transaction Management: Initiate and process all financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate data entry and documentation.
  • Monthly Reconciliation: Coordinate and reconcile the department’s monthly indices, generating detailed reports for review and reconciliation.
  • Report Generation: Prepare a variety of financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and aging reports, using Yardi Property Management System and Banner.
  • Procurement and Requisitions: Manage transaction procurement for the department by generating requisitions, journal entries, and processing reimbursements using systems like Banner, Chrome River, PCard, and LoboMart.
  • Tenant Billing and Cash Management: Prepare and manage tenant invoicing, monitor accounts receivables, and ensure timely deposits of cash-related items.
  • Support and Communication: Respond to inquiries and concerns from internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and efficient resolution of issues.
  • Assist with Budgeting: Support the Financial Officer in creating and managing the department’s budget, ensuring all financial activities are aligned with budgetary goals.
  • Additional Duties: You may also be tasked with time sheet preparation, time entry, and maintaining leave and payroll records for department staff.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical Skills:
    • Yardi Property Management Software experience is preferred.
    • Familiarity with Banner, Chrome River, PCard, and LoboMart is a plus.
    • Strong Excel skills to prepare financial reports and projections.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of departments, vendors, and external entities.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail and the ability to analyze financial data accurately.
  • Experience working with real estate or property management financials.
  • Previous experience preparing financial reports and projections using automated accounting systems or Excel.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data to make informed decisions and recommendations.
