Position Summary

The School of Law at the University of New Mexico School of Law seeks a welcoming and customer service-oriented Receptionist (UNM job title Administrative Assistant 1). This high visibility position serves as the front-facing staff member who greets and assists visitors, students, faculty, and staff in the Law School Administration suite. Main duties include: Provide primary coverage for the Law School Reception desk; assist telephone callers and visitors, students and employees by directing them to appropriate resources, answering questions about room scheduling and other routine inquiries, and providing visitors with directions to areas of the building; respond to room reservation requests and update the online classroom calendar; issue daily parking passes to visitors; serve as a distribution point for specified course materials and Registrar’s Office documents; administer and perform mailroom activities such as receiving, sorting, and distributing mail and packages, emptying the shredder machine, and keeping basic supplies stocked; perform administrative support activities such as formatting and editing MS Word or other documents. May assist with setup of guest speaker lectures, Law School functions, and other special events.

The successful candidate will be highly dependable, work productively both independently and as part of a team, and possess a customer service-oriented, helpful, and courteous demeanor. Must be able to interact well with a wide range of diverse constituencies and maintain a positive, collaborative attitude.

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

-Professional appearance appropriate for an office setting
-Ability to understand and follow directions
-Strong organizational skills
-Experience in providing reception support and services
-Some experience with administrative support work is preferred
