Position Summary

The University College Advisement Center (UCAC) welcomes applications for a full-time benefits eligible Administrative Assistant 1 (AA1) staff position.

UCAC is prominently located on UNM main campus. We offer academic advisement to a cohort of students majoring as undecided/exploratory, pre-health, liberal arts & integrative studies, and non-degree. The AA1 serves as the first point of contact.

Responsibilities will include interaction with visitors, answering phone, handling mail, scheduling academic advisement appointments, and maintaining the reception area while performing general administrative tasks. Managing the front desk operations and supporting UCAC staff daily operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in customer service, time management, and organizational skills as a team member of a highly skilled academic advisement center.

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Experience working in higher education environment
  • Empathetic and active listening skills to respond to repetitive questions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent customer service experience with a diverse population
  • Proficient in Zoom and Microsoft Office Suite including Teams
  • Detail oriented, time management and strong organizational skills
  •  Work effectively independently as well as with a team
