Position Summary

The Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology is seeking a motivated, self-directed candidate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our high performing-dynamic team as an Administrative Assistant 2. This position is the first point of contact for the department and is critical part of department’s engagement. This individual selected for this position will provide administrative support for our faculty, staff, and students in a fast-pace environment and must be comfortable responding to a variety of administrative and academic issues. The candidate must be flexible and adaptive to a variety of customers and responsive to needs of all visitors.


The ideal candidate for this position demonstrates attention to detail, comfortable asking question and exploring answers, works well independently and in a team, and takes pride in the quality of their work. Duties will include hiring all student employees, planning departmental events, supervising front office students, assisting with special projects, and serving as an executive assistant to the department chair and administrator. The selected candidate will be expected to have a UNM p-card and have the ability to reconcile transactions and submit reports in a timely fashion.

  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Enjoys helping customers to solve issues
  • Experience scheduling appointments utilizing an electronic calendar system
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and comfortable using email for department overall announcement
  • Must have strong organization and time management skills
  • Must be able to assist others in navigating basic computer issues such as, Loboweb, email, internet
