Position Summary

The Office of University Counsel (OUC) provides legal advice and support to UNM and represents the University in its legal matters. Our office is led by the University’s General Counsel (the "GC"). The OUC maintains two offices: OUC-Main and OUC-HSC. Each side of campus is managed by a deputy university counsel, with numerous attorneys and administrative staff managed by each deputy. The OUC’s client is always the University, not any individual or segment of UNM. Our client, UNM, includes the Main Campus in Albuquerque, the Health Sciences Center on North Campus (including the UNM Hospital), and the four Branch Campuses in New Mexico.

Reporting to the OUC - Director of Operations, you will complete a wide range of duties, including answering the phone, copying, faxing, scanning, filing, setting up Zoom/Teams calls, log mail, complete data entry, and provide legal assistance to attorneys. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, detail oriented, a multi-tasker, and has solid organizational and communication skills. The ideal candidate is friendly, professional & motivated while working both independently and as part of a team.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a legal setting highly preferred
  • Proficient in calendaring/Outlook
  • Proficient with Microsoft products: Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Proficient with Zoom
  • Experience with litigation management databases/programs
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of legal procedures and documentation
  • Ability to gather and organize legal evidence
  • Customer service and solution oriented
