Position Summary

The UNM School of Law seeks an energetic, professional and goal-oriented Administrative Assistant 1 to perform and coordinate the Law School’s front reception area activities. This position reports to the Operations Manager for the Law Faculty Contracts & Services Unit and is assigned to work full-time at the Law School. Must be a team player and be able to maintain a positive demeanor in a high traffic area, working cooperatively and respectfully with a diverse range of people within the Law School community.

Main duties include: Performs a variety of office support and/or secretarial duties for the Law School’s front reception area, such as greeting and directing visitors, relaying and resolving routine telephone and/or walk-up inquiries, assisting law students and employees with general questions and requests related to reception/mailroom activities, scheduling calendar items and meetings, processing forms, performing data entry, and establishing and maintaining records, files and certificates as applicable. Resolves routine administrative problems and accepts, screens, and routes telephone calls; maintains log of inquiries as required. Operates personal computer to compose, edit, revise, tabulate, and print letters, tables, reports, and other materials. Sorts, screens, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail, drafts or prepares responses to routine inquiries, and operates a variety of office equipment. May instruct and oversee the activities of student employees performing the same type of work. Also acts as a designated back-up administrative assistant for the Faculty Support team; performs faculty support tasks such as composing a variety of standard documents and correspondence which may be confidential in nature and require research to complete, editing, and proofreading documents to ensure accuracy. May perform duties involving simple mathematical calculations.

  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred QualificationsKnowledgeable in Microsoft Office 10 applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Prior reception/front desk work in a higher education or legal services environment preferred.
