Position Summary

The University of NewMexico Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is looking for a full time (12months) Advanced Practice Provider. Under general supervision, thisindividual will provide direct services to students attending the University ofNew Mexico and desirable candidate will have experience in primary care and theability to care for patients with acute injury/illness.

Student Health andCounseling (SHAC) is a comprehensive health service available to all currentlyenrolled UNM students. SHAC is located North of Johnson Center and across fromthe Student Union Building. It is open Monday through Friday, and is closed onall UNM holidays. Services include medical appointments (scheduled andsame-day), pharmacy, women's and men's health, allergy and immunization,medical specialty clinics, physical therapy, lab and x-ray, travel healthclinic and counseling services, as well as health education andprevention.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required.Certification/LicensureEligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's AssistantORState of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner or certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred QualificationsMinimum of 3 years ofexperience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
General Adult Primary Care (Family Medicine) including
Management of chronic disease such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma
Providing and tracking age appropriate preventive care
Specialist referrals as needed-managing and advocating
Experience providing and advocating for sexual health and prevention in a young adult population
Expertise in treating anxiety, depression, and related mental health disorder and coordinating care with mental health providers as appropriate
Experience with urgent care management of of acute illness and injuries such as:
Minor laceration repairs
Nail removals
Incision and drainage
Diagnosis and initial management of uncomplicated fracture and arrangement of appropriate follow up care.
Experience with and interest in providing health care to a culturally diverse population
Experience working successfully as a member of health care deliver team
