Position Summary

The Division of Cardiology within the Department of InternalMedicine is seeking, under the direction of the Cardiology faculty, a NursePractitioner/Physician Assistant provider for the outpatient Heart Failureclinic. The individual will closely interface with other specialtyservices managing heart failure at the Medical Arts Heart Failure Clinic underthe supervision of the heart failure medical director. The individualwill have direct involvement with specialty cardiology patient care, includinghis/her own clinic panel. The individual will ensure adherence toestablished policies and procedures, regulations, and standards. Theindividual will provide direct patient care, evaluations, and consultations, aswell as coordinate services with other patient care providers. The individualwill manage their own patient panel (patient calls, callbacks, clinicappointment requests, coordinate scheduling, ordering labs, follow-up of labs,and other diagnostic tests).

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required.Certification/LicensureEligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's AssistantORState of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner or certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to coordinate day-to-day clinic expectations and closely interface with outpatient an inpatient referring providers
  • Ability to to have direct involvement with their won heart failure clinic panel
  • Ability to manage patient calls, callbacks, triaging, patient care, clinic appointments, scheduling, and ordering labs
  • Ability to attend and participate in monthly Heart Failure Clinic Q and A meetings and participate in Heart Failure quality assurance processes
  • Ability to coordinate services with other patient care providers, as appropriate, and provide direct patient evaluation and consultation for patients in the Heart Failure Clinic, and related problems
  • Ability to maintain an appropriate panel size, including hospital discharge clinic visits within 7 days
