Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is looking for a full time (12 months) Advanced Practice Provider. Under general supervision, this individual will provide same-day and primary care to UNM students. Desirable candidate will have experience in primary care and the ability to care for patients with acute injury/illness.

Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a comprehensive health service available to all currently enrolled UNM students. SHAC is located North of Johnson Center and across from the Student Union Building. It is open Monday through Friday, and is closed on all UNM holidays. Services include medical appointments (scheduled and same-day), pharmacy, women's and men's health, allergy and immunization, medical specialty clinics, physical therapy, lab and x-ray, travel health clinic and counseling services, as well as health education and prevention.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status.
  • Must maintain certification status.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required.Certification/LicensureEligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's AssistantORState of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner or certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience preferred as a PA or Nurse Practitioner.

  • Experience providing primary care in a Family of Internal Medicine office including same day/acute care appointments.
  • Experience with prevention, evaluation, and treatment of patients’ sexual health concerns.
  • Experience managing acute illness and injuries including orthopedics and wound care.
  • Experience delivering healthcare to culturally diverse student population.
  • Experience working successfully as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team.
