Position Summary

Thisposition is for the University of New Mexico-Gallup Branch located in Gallup,NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The University of New Mexico-Gallup invites applications for a twelve(12) month fiscal year position, tenure-track to serve as an AssistantProfessor/Assistant Director of Nursing within the Education, Health &Human Services Division. We are one offour branch community colleges of the University of New Mexico and serveapproximately 2200 students. Located inGallup NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, UNM-Gallup is situatedin the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation, Zuni Pueblo and HopiReservation. The city of Gallup has apopulation of 22,000 and the surrounding areas provide an abundance of outdoorrecreational activities, various museums and extraordinary cultural vibrancy,while maintaining a small-town feel.

UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100+ fulltime and part-time faculty members. Weare fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offering Associatedegrees, selected Bachelor’s degrees, Career Technical Education certificateprograms, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training and personalenrichment courses. UNM-Gallup servesmultiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle CollegeHigh School and the Center for Career and Technical Education.

It is an exciting time to join our faculty as we are expanding ourprograms, engaging with our community, establishing multiple endowments and grant opportunitieswhile hiring a substantial cohort of new faculty. Assistant Professors at UNM-G have careeradvancement opportunities that are outlined in the UNM Faculty Handbook andfaculty union collective bargaining agreement.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 9 credit hour (CH)course load along with the equivalent of 6 CH of administrative duties load inthe area of Nursing, assist and support the Director of Nursing in developing,implementing, and evaluating the UNM-Gallup nursing program, maintain an activescholarship/service record (as defined by the UA-UNM CBA), participate inmonthly Division meetings and execute other relevant duties as agreed upon inconjunction with the division chair in an annual faculty-chair agreement. Successin this position results in efficient and effective instruction for studentsand compliance with accreditation standards. In addition, the successful candidate will beexpected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusionthrough actively practicing inclusive behavior and proactively managing bias. Thesuccessful candidate must be prepared to work on varied instructional andmanagement responsibilities. Strict regulations and the variety of tasks to bemanaged contribute to the complexity of the position.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Unrestricted, current RN licensure in New Mexico.
  • Two or more years of clinical nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree of coursework in Education.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at a branch/community college or similar institution.
  • Minimum of one year experience supervising employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with groups in a collaborative atmosphere.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
