The Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science Division of UNM-Valencia is accepting applications for two Assistant or Associate Professors (dependent on qualifications) of Mathematics at UNM-Valencia. This posting is for two full-time, 9-month, tenure-track positions. The positions begin on August 10, 2020.
Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch community college associated with the University of New Mexico. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers vocational and technical courses as well as academic transfer courses to the citizens of Valencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of approximately 2,300 each semester.
Salary: Base salary range for nine-month faculty position is $44,000 - $46,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Summer teaching is possible and optional with additional compensation. Office space and computer hardware and software will be provided, as well as an excellent package of benefits.
Summary of duties and responsibilities: Provide 15 credit hours of classroom instruction in mathematics, statistics, and/or mathematics education content courses during each of fall and spring semesters. Responsibilities also include maintaining attendance, scholastic, and student records, as well as posting and maintaining office hours, some of which may occur in the Learning Commons. Additionally, there is expected participation in college committees, curriculum development initiatives, outcomes assessment, professional development (directly related to teaching field), classroom technology training, departmental projects, and other areas of service and scholarship as appropriate. Responsibilities may include participation in Undergraduate Research initiatives related to current grant awards (as applicable).
· Master’s degree in Mathematics or in a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Mathematics.
· One to two years of experience teaching developmental or freshman college-level Mathematics classes at a post-secondary institution.
· Ph.D. or ABD (all but dissertation) in Mathematics or closely related field.
· Two or more years teaching a wide range of Mathematics courses at a two-year, post-secondary institution.
· Commitment to and potential for service and professional development.
· Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
· Experience working with computer-based instruction, calculators and other technology in the classroom.
· Experience teaching online or hybrid/blended courses.
· A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
