Position Summary

TheUniversity of New Mexico Gallup campus is one of four branch community collegesof the University and serves approximately 3,000 students. Gallup has a population of approximately 22,000 and the area provides anabundance of outdoor recreational opportunities within some of the mostbeautiful red rock country in the Southwest. Located near the Navajo,Zuni, and Hopi Reservations, UNM Gallup has one of the largest Native Americanstudent populations in the country. UNM Gallup is fully accredited by theHigher Learning Commission, offering Associate degrees and Career Technicalcertificate programs, adult basic education (ABE and GED), workforce training,and personal enrichment courses. There are approximately 57 part-time and 54full-time faculty members.

The University of New Mexico, Gallup campus, Mathematics,Physical and Natural Sciences Division, invites applications for a full-time nine(9) month tenure-track position at the rank ofAssistant Professor in Biology to begin Fall of 2020. The successful applicant will provide 15 credit hours ofclassroom instruction at 100 and 200 level courses during each of fall andspring semester. Responsibilities will includemaintaining attendance, scholastic, and student records, as well as posting andmaintaining office hours. In addition, there is expected participationin various campus wise committees including those of Faculty Assembly. It is also expected of the successfulapplicant to participate in professional development activities (related toteaching field), curriculum development initiatives, develop onlinecourses, participate in advising, periodic program and course outcome assessments and shared governanceas well as engage in scholarly/research activities. The candidate must possessa minimum of Master’s degree in Biology from an accredited university at the time ofappointment. The chosen candidate mustbe able to offer introductory courses in general biology.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Biology
  • Experience teaching biology courses at the college level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biology
  • Experience teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology courses
  • Experience teaching students with diverse socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to an open-admission community college
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
