Multiple Assistant Professor Positions

The Department of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for multiple tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to join our growing department starting Fall 2020.

The CCEE Department has a vision for unprecedented growth in research and education over the next 10 years that includes an aggressive search and hire of the future leaders in civil, construction, and environmental engineering. The successful candidates will contribute to the research and teaching mission of the Department, which currently has 16 faculty members, several research professors, 250 undergraduate students, and 85 graduate students. The Department generates $6.5 million in annual research expenditures. The Department is housed in the Centennial Engineering Center, which was built in 2008 and contains state-of-the-art civil engineering laboratories. The Department research centers include the Center for Water and the Environment, the UNM Resilience Institute, and a regional University Transportation Center (UTC). The University of New Mexico also enjoys close collaborations with area research laboratories such as Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the Air Force Research Lab.

Candidates are invited to apply in the following focus areas:

  • Construction engineering and management: innovative construction methods and technologies, sustainable and resilient building systems, and smart construction systems.

  • Structural engineering: computational structural mechanics and the use of advanced and new computational methods involving parallel computing, big data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

  • Transportation engineering: sustainable transportation systems, geometric design, and advanced traffic engineering for smart and connected cities.

  • Environmental and water resources engineering: environmental impacts and sustainability of energy technologies, fate and treatment of emerging organic contaminants, or life-cycle assessment of environmental impacts.

The University of New Mexico is the premier research university in the state of New Mexico, as well as a Carnegie R1 Highest Research Activity Institution and a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution. The UNM School of Engineering is partnering with ADVANCE at UNM, an NSF Institutional Transformation grant, to help recruit and retain an excellent and diverse faculty.

The University is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, an ethnically diverse metropolitan area (population about 900,000 residents) that is listed as one of the best small cities in the U.S. by National Geographic Traveler.
