Position Summary | Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education and choral music, conduct choral ensembles, and teach courses in other areas according to the candidate's qualifications and as assigned by the department chair. Supervise student teachers, advise upper-level students in Choral Music Education, and guide graduate research projects. Establish and maintain effective undergraduate and graduate recruitment activities throughout the state, region, and nation. Develop and maintain positive, collaborative relations with area music educators, serving as a resource to support and enhance choral music education in our local and state-wide choral communities. Develop and maintain a strong research presence in the music education field. Demonstrate a commitment to university service. Appointment Begins: August 11, 2025 |
Qualifications | Minimum Qualifications: (1) Doctorate in music, music education, education or a related field with all requirements completed by August 2025. (2) Three years elementary, middle, or high school choral music teaching experience. (3) Two years of college teaching experience at the graduate assistant level or above. Preferred Qualifications: High-level expertise (teaching ability, musicianship, and scholarship) in choral music education with demonstrated student successes in public school (or comparable) choral music teaching context(s). Demonstrated excellence (as shown by audio or visual recordings and/or the CV) in conducting secondary and/or college-level choral ensembles. Creative specializations in two or more of the following areas (as demonstrated in the CV and/or Teaching Statement): conducting, choral music pedagogy, assessment, diversity, psychology, inclusive and expansive pedagogies in choral/vocal music, technology, vernacular music, mariachi, creativity, quantitative and/or qualitative research, community music, and/or andragogy. Demonstrate fluency in effective vocal and choral pedagogical techniques, embody a musical, vocal, and artistic model, and use an inclusive, expansive, and relevant approach to repertoire selection. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and student success as well as working with broadly diverse communities. A background teaching asynchronous online courses. Five or more years of public school (or comparable private/community) teaching. Emerging or established national research profile in peer-reviewed conferences and/or publications. |
