The UNM Department of Architecture seeksapplicants for two Assistant Professor of Architecture positions. We invite applications for a full-time faculty position at the levelof Assistant Professor probationary appointment, leading to a tenuredecision. Applications received on or before December 9, 2019 will have bestconsideration. The positions will remain open until filled. The appointmentscommence August 10, 2020.
The successfulcandidates will teach two architectural design studios during the academic year(one graduate and one undergraduate), as well as a required lecture/seminarcourse in our curriculum, and a seminar focused on their scholarly or researchagenda.
We seekapplicants who have a demonstrated capacity for critical inquiry into architecturaldesign issues as they apply to a broad range of changing global conditions,including but not limited to culture, climate, society, and technology. We seekapplicants who have an emerging record of excellence in teaching and a researchagenda.

The Department ofArchitecture offers a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, with threeconcentrations: Pre-ProfessionalArchitecture, Design Studies and Landscape Architecture. We also offer an accredited professionalMaster of Architecture degree, as well as a non-professional Master of Sciencein Architecture degree with a research-oriented concentration in Public Health& the Built Environment.
Other degreeprograms in the School include the Master of Community & Regional Planning,the Master of Landscape Architecture and the Bachelor of Arts in EnvironmentalPlanning & Design, along with two graduate certificate programs: HistoricPreservation and Regionalism, and Urban Innovation. The school has beeninvolved in public interest design for over fifty years. The UNM Design and Planning Assistance Center(DPAC) works with communities to address complex challenges. The DPAC graduate studio works with communityleaders or stakeholders to ensure their needs are understood and respected.
The Department of Architecture has a strong reputation forproviding a quality education, focusing on relevant 21st centuryissues. The US Department of Education’s College Scorecard illustrates that UNMis one of the most affordable universities to study architecture at thegraduate or undergraduate level. Recent alumni are working in notable national firms(SHoP Architects, Gensler, etc.), as well as in leading firms practicing in NewMexico. Our students regularly participate in competitions, and often win orplace.
The Departmentof Architecture is housed in the award-winning George Pearl Hall, designed byarchitect Antoine Predock, a former UNM student and current professor ofpractice. 1) A NAABaccredited professional Architecture degree, or international equivalent.
2) An advanceddegree at the Masters or Doctorate level.
1) ArchitecturalDesign teaching experience as the instructor of record. We ask that thesuccessful candidates teach a minimum of two design studios, with the potentialto develop one or two other courses.
2) Evidence of aresearch agenda.
3) Demonstrationof excellence in design studio teaching as the instructor of record.
4) Preference will be given to applicants with three fullyears of design studio experience as the instructor of record, and experienceteaching more than one other class.
5) Evidence of a design orscholarly practice.
6) A demonstrated commitment to diversity,equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diversecommunities. Examples include, but are not limited to, developingstrategies for the educational or professional advancement of students inunderrepresented groups, efforts to advance equitable access and diversity ineducation, and engagement activities such as recruitment, retention, andmentoring or advising of underrepresented students or new faculty.
