Position Summary

Assistant Professor of Art Education. Probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision. 1.0 FTE. In addition to scholarship, service and committee work are expected. The new faculty member will teach, advise, and serve on exit requirement committees for graduate students, pursue a personal research agenda, and assist in the creation of future programs. In addition to teaching the new faculty member will coordinate and supervise Introduction to Art Education student observers in area schools (public and private), museums, and community art programs

The Art Education Program offers four programs of study, including three degrees and coursework leading to licensure:

-BA, Art Education with Visual Art preK-12 licensure

-Post-Baccalaureate coursework leading to Visual Art preK-12 licensure

-MA, Art Education leading to Visual Art preK-12 licensure

-MA, Art Education

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Art Education or related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment. One year university-level teaching experience as instructor of record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Evidence of scholarly research in art education. Evidence of studio practice. One year of experience beyond the TA level teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in art
education. Three years teaching art early childhood to adult learners (school, museum, or community organization). Teaching license reciprocal with NMPED. Demonstrated familiarity with research methodologies in art education. Demonstrated familiarity with and application of new technologies in
teaching. Demonstrated aptitude to participate in a collaborative working environment. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse
communities.
