Position Summary

AssistantProfessor of Painting and Drawing. Probationary appointment leading to atenure decision. 1.0 FTE.

The Department of Art is seeking an artistwhose practice is rooted in the expanded field of painting and drawing. Theideal candidate has a practice that broadens and complements those of thecurrent Painting and Drawing faculty, contributing distinct approaches andconcerns. Our priority is for a colleague who expands critical perspectives andconceptual territory and is fluent in contemporary cultural and aestheticdiscourses. The new faculty member will teach all levels of painting anddrawing studio and seminar courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels,advise MFA students, serve on graduate committees, as well as contribute to theinterdisciplinary curriculum in the department at large.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.F.A. in studio art with emphasis in Painting andDrawing or a related field.
  • Two years of post-graduate university-level teachingexperience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent creativework in painting and drawing and its expanded fields.
  • Demonstrated interest in contributingto a contemporary interdisciplinary setting in an atmosphere of closefaculty-student mentoring.
  • An active and accelerating record ofprofessional engagement, which might include exhibitions, recognitions, andreviews in the field.
  • A creative practice that expands the department’scritical perspectives and conceptual territory.
  • Conversant in contemporaryissues of material studies, theory, and aesthetics, especially as they relateto painting and drawing.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
