Position Summary

This position is for the University of New Mexico-Gallup Branch located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The University of New Mexico-Gallup invites applications for anAssistant Professor of Psychology (open specialization) to begin in August 2024.We are one of four branch community colleges of the University of New Mexicoand serve approximately 2,200 students. Located in Gallup NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque,UNM-Gallup is situated in the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation,Zuni Pueblo and Hopi Reservation. Thecity of Gallup has a population of 22,000 and the surrounding areas provide anabundance of outdoor recreational activities, various museums and extraordinarycultural vibrancy, while maintaining a small-town feel.

UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100+ fulltime and part-time faculty members. Weare fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offering Associatedegrees, selected Bachelor’s degrees, Career Technical Education certificateprograms, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training and personalenrichment courses. UNM-Gallup servesmultiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle CollegeHigh School and the Center for Career and Technical Education.

It is an exciting time to join our faculty as we are expanding ourprograms, engaging with our community, and establishing multiple endowments and grant opportunitieswhile hiring a substantial cohort of new faculty. Assistant Professors at UNM-G have careeradvancement opportunities that are outlined in the UNM Faculty Handbook andfaculty union collective bargaining agreement.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach 24 credits per academicyears in the area of Psychology (4 courses in both the spring and fall semesters,or equivalent), maintain an active scholarship/service record (as defined by theUA-UNM CBA), participate in monthly Division meetings and execute otherrelevant duties as agreed upon in conjunction with the division chair in anannual faculty-chair agreement. In addition,the selected candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity,equity, and inclusion through actively practicing inclusive behavior andproactively managing bias.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Psy.D or Ph.D in Psychology (ABD will be considered if degree will be completed by date of appointment)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College-level teaching experience, preferably at a Community College
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population
  • Demonstrated experience working with first-generation college students
  • Experience teaching remote or asynchronous online courses using a learning management system
