Position Summary

The Division of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University is recruiting an Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgeon. The University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) is the primary affiliate of the UNM School of Medicine and the state's only American College of Surgeons verified Level 1 Trauma center. UNM is the tertiary referral center for the entire state of New Mexico and also attracts patients from neighboring states as well. UNMH has extensive experience and expertise in managing the most complex surgical patients and those who are in need of treatment of both benign and malignant diseases of the ears, nose and throat. Advanced care is delivered by 11 board-certified Otolaryngologists, with the support of specialized services provided by our audiologists, speech pathologist and advanced practice providers. There are four fellowship-trained head and neck oncologic surgeons at UNM all with specific expertise and training in endocrine surgery. This is a high-volume center with more than three hundred endocrine cases performed every year. Our surgeons are highly experienced and capable of performing the full range of endocrine surgery including total thyroidectomy, central neck dissection, lateral neck dissection, mediastinal dissection, tracheal resection and reconstruction, parathyroid exploration, and parathyroid auto-transplantation. UNM Health Science Center (UNMHSC) is one of only 29 institutions nationally that has both an NIH (NCI) designated Cancer Center (Comprehensive Cancer Center) and a NIH sponsored Clinical Translational Science Center. UNMH has 629 beds for adult, pediatric and psychiatric care. There were 90,000 ED visits, 2,500 trauma admissions (1,200 at the highest activation level, with >20% penetrating trauma), and 19,460 surgical procedures. We have recently successfully completed our Level 1 verification visit. This position is being recruited at Assistant Professor Level.
