Position Summary

The Department of Philosophy at the University of New Mexico is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, tenure-stream position in Ancient Greek Philosophy and Analytic Metaphysics & Epistemology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date is August 2024. AOS: Ancient Greek Philosophy; AOC: Open, but must include Analytic Metaphysics & Epistemology. The Department has particular teaching needs in logic. Customary undergraduate and graduate teaching duties, including thesis supervision, and non-teaching duties in Philosophy.

We are seeking an outstanding scholar who combines a research specialization in Ancient Greek Philosophy with the ability to teach Analytic Metaphysics & Epistemology; who is able to teach courses that contribute to the Department’s undergraduate major programs as well as its graduate curriculum; who will enjoy working in a philosophically pluralistic department; and who has a demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as to working with broadly diverse communities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

-Ph.D. in philosophy or related field by date of appointment

-Ancient Greek Philosophy as an area of research specialization

-Analytic Metaphysics & Epistemology as an area of research competence

Preferred Qualifications:

-Potential for producing a strong record of publications in Ancient Greek Philosophy

-Evidence of teaching excellence in courses taught in a university or college setting

-Ability to teach courses that contribute to the Department’s undergraduate major programs as well as its graduate curriculum

-Ability to work effectively with students and colleagues as well as ability to work effectively in a philosophically pluralistic department

-A demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as to working with broadly diverse communities
