Position Summary | UNM IT is looking for an Associate Director of Academic Technologies with a focus on learning environments who is passionate about empowering students and faculty to participate in higher education. From the rapid expansion of online and hybrid meetings that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic to transformative impacts of artificial intelligence, technology is playing an increasing role in the delivery of education, in classrooms, computer labs, makerspaces, back offices, and online. Key to success is an understanding of the intersection of technology, pedagogy, and higher education policy as we design and develop solutions to meet student and faculty needs. It is critical to our work to ensure that the digital divide doesn’t leave anyone behind. This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of teaching and learning in a dynamic and evolving educational landscape at a time that couldn’t be more important for UNM and New Mexico. The success of this position will depend on collaboration and partnership. Reporting to the Director of Online Strategies and Academic Technologies, this position will serve on a leadership team that includes leadership from UNM Online, the Institute of Design & Innovation, and other leadership within UNM IT Academic Technologies. This is a mission-driven team that is dedicated to support of digital transformation opportunities within the university, advances in student success and faculty pedagogy approaches that leverage technology, and educational access for students who would otherwise be left on the wrong side of a digital divide. In addition to collaboration within the department, this position is expected to work collaboratively across the IT department and the institution to identify and plan needed maintenance and upgrades to UNM’s learning environments while supporting UNM and UNM IT’s strategic priorities. Of particular importance is the collaboration with the Campus Outreach and Engagement area, both because of the embedded expertise in learning environments found in Campus Outreach staff, and because of significant opportunities for alignment and synergies between the missions of the two departments. This position will have regular interactions with students, faculty, and administrative support across a wide variety of offices, from Facilities Design and Construction to Scheduling, the Office of the Provost, and many academic and administrative departments that depend on UNM IT for services. This position will provide leadership for a team that includes multiple grade 10-16 IT positions and a large student employee workforce who are responsible for providing timely support and supervision of classrooms and computer labs. Responsibilities
This role involves regular on-site engagement with diverse stakeholders across UNM, and management of staff and student employees who are responsible for on-site response to classroom and computer lab support needs. While some remote work may be possible, the position primarily requires physical presence to support and collaborate effectively on various in-person services for the university. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
