Position Summary

Summary

Provides a wide range of advanced medical statistical expertise, guidance, and support faculty and their research teams. Collects, analyzes and interprets conclusions for data. This position requires an understanding of statistical theory and application to work out issues within biological and health science departments within UNM.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Design, analyze, and implement targeted statistical studies, which are geared to further medical knowledge and the improve research efforts in public health.
  2. Works with investigators to formalize analysis plans and reporting specifications; advises as to choice of medical statistical analysis strategies, reliability of measurements and identifiability of models, and interpretation and presentation of medical statistical results.
  3. Provides statistical support to assigned clinical trials, scientific projects and programs
  4. Provides clinical trial statistical analyses and sample size justification assessments, as requested.
  5. Ability to think critically, develop unique solutions when necessary, and communicate and write analysis approaches
  6. Provides responses to statistical issues arising in regulatory, quality and compliance, clinical or other legal settings as required
  7. Builds and maintains strong collaboration with different disciplines across the University in order to identify and meet their needs for statistical support
  8. May represent Biostatistics on clinical and pre-clinical project teams as required
  9. Provides professional statistical support to clinical development teams
  10. Reviews and provides analysis of safety reporting, biomarker analyses and other aspects of clinical trial monitoring
  11. Under supervision, able to handle requests from regulatory agencies, local IRB and ethical committees and other health authorities
  12. Interacts with team members across functional areas and multiple studies as requires
  13. Ensures timeliness and high quality of Biostatistics deliverables
  14. Supports staff to resolve statistical or technical issues
  15. Assists in preparation of clinical trial documents, including clinical protocols, investigator brochures, statistical analysis plans, and other, as needed
  16. Serves on internal and external committees (i.e., with collaborating partners) to provide statistical perspective
  17. Assists in the preparation of clinical study reports, scientific abstracts and peer-reviewed manuscripts
  18. Interact with external collaborators and statistical consultants
  19. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles, concepts, methods, and standards of medical statistical research.
  • Ability to apply a range of advanced statistical techniques in support of scientific research studies and/or experiments.
  • In-depth understanding of probability and medical statistics theory
  • Understanding of data management principles for clinical trials and medical research
  • Applied knowledge of advanced statistical models, such as generalized linear models, survival analyses and mixed models
  • Experience managing projects
  • Experience in team coordination
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for clinical trials and medical research
  • Strong focus on quality and timely delivery of work.
  • Well organized with good time management skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high level of proficiency in English
  • Ability to work well and flexibly i.e. autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders
  • Ability to see the big picture, whilst still maintaining a focus on detail and implementation
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of SAS Software

Provides a wide range of advanced statistical expertise, guidance, and support to researchers, scientists, faculty, research teams, and managers engaged in research studies within the health sciences. Participates in the design, development, and reporting of research studies and clinical trials. Collects, analyzes and interprets biological and health science data across multiple research entities in the University's health system. Responds to a broad range of complex statistical issues arising in a variety of clinical and health science research settings.

TERM APPOINTMENT; FUNDING AVAILABLE THROUGH 03/31/2020; CONTINUANCE BEYOND THAT DATE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING. The UNM Clinical Research Center (CTSC) has over 35 years of continuous funding as a well-established NIH FUNDED research center.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
