Position Summary

Provides personal, and real property security for faculty, staff, students, and visitors at the Office of the Medical Investigator. Provides after-hours building access to individuals transporting deceased persons to the facility and assists them in moving the deceased persons into the coolers, logging them into a computer data base, and ensuring their security. Provides escort services, and other basic public assistance services as needed, and performs routine security and public safety patrol duties within assigned area. Remains alert to emergency situations and provides first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required.

OTHER ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Under general supervision, receives and logs in bodies of deceased persons, ensuring appropriate and strict confidentiality.

2. Conducts daily inventory of deceased individuals in the OMI crypts.

3. Receives and logs in records and medical specimens.

4. Patrols the department to check equipment and alarms.

5. May provide specialized security in a secure facility/medical examiner area, requiring specific knowledge of the operating environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Will work in a death environment with occasional noxious odors.

2. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.

3. Extensive physical activity. Requires occasional strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.

4. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

This is a part-time, benefits eligible position.


This is a weekend graveyard shift for 27 hours a week. Additional hours may be available when covering annual or sick leave for other employees.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Possession of a valid UNM driver's license is required to operate a State vehicle.
  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, which may include related certification or practicum training.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working with/in:

1. Dead bodies as an EMT, mortuary assistant, law enforcement officer or hospital technician

2. Security procedures

3. Working with confidential information







Additional RequirementsSuccessful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.Once hired, periodic checks will be made for eligibility of continued employment.
