Position Summary

The Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitationat the University of New Mexico (UNM) is seeking a full-time Physiatrist toprovide consultative services and support the continued growth of our expandingDivision of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R). This position isa key component of the Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation’s(PM&R) growth and will strengthen both clinical services and academictraining within the program.
The successful candidate will provide inpatient consult coverage at UNMHospital and supervise residents and medical students during rotations. Thisposition is essential to meeting ACGME requirements for the PM&R ResidencyProgram, a four-year categorical program that trains the next generation ofleaders in rehabilitation medicine. Faculty in the Division also participate indidactic teaching, scholarly activity, and program development.
We are seeking candidates who are board-certified (or eligible) in PM&R.Faculty rank and clinical focus within PM&R are flexible, and the candidatemay come from any subspecialty within PM&R.
With a catchment population ofover 800,000 and very little competition, the UNM hospital is a 618-bed, Level1 trauma center servicing a state with a very strong need for PM&Rservices. Applicants with diverse interests in PM&R are all welcome andwill be well-supported with the multi-specialty team focusing on using a widerange of minimally invasive surgical and non-surgical techniques.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications must elicit a yes or no answer, be consistent with the attached PAM and be compliant with faculty hiring guidelines.

  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree
  • U.S. Board certified or board eligible in PM&R
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of New Mexico

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstratedinterest and experience in resident and medical student education
  • Trackrecord of scholarly activity or academic contributions
  • Ademonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and variedcultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to servelocal and global communities
