Position Summary

The University of New Mexico’s Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) seeks a Compliance Specialist experienced in interpreting and analyzing policies and providing technical advice in the areas of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action including Title IX, Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act.   • Determining, gathering, and analyzing evidentiary information necessary to evaluate compliance issues.

  • Conducting unbiased investigations of allegations of civil rights discrimination and preparing investigative reports including conclusions based on findings.

  • Creating, developing, and delivering a range of promotional, educational, and informational programs, workshops, and resource materials related to program activities and initiatives.

  • Interpreting, analyzing, and advising on the application of EEO and Affirmative Action laws and regulations in an employment and academic setting in accordance with federal, state, and locals laws and guidelines, and UNM policies and procedures.

The selected candidate must possess strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, team player, and must be able to multi-task and handle confidential material in a professional manner.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

· Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.

· Ability to interpret, analyze, and advise on the application of EEO and Affirmative Action policies and regulations in an employment and academic settings.

· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

· Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice and civil rights work

· Experience investigating concerns related to discrimination, failure to accommodate, Title IX, sexual harassment or sexual assault

· Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops

· Ability to handle multiple tasks with time sensitive deadlines with minimal supervision

· Legal knowledge including paralegal or JD course work

· Bilingual (English/Spanish)

· Experience in auditing hiring actions for compliance with EEO/AA laws and regulations

Additional RequirementsSemi-Finalists will be asked to prepare a brief writing sample that follows specific instructions from the Search Coordinator. Interviewees will be asked to provide three supervisory references. Official transcripts will be required for hire. Please see minimum qualifications for specifics.
