Position Summary

The University of New Mexico's Center for Memory and Aging is seeking a self-starter, motivated candidate to coordinate the day-to day activities for multiple research trials in accordance with the specific research parameters. Responsibilities will include recruiting and scheduling patients for multiple ongoing research studies, ensuring protocol adherence for each specified study, and maintaining accurate records. The position will also require preparation of required forms and working with the Human Research Protection Office (HRPO), the MIND Research Network (MRN), HSC research pharmacy, and the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC). Duties also include the collection, compilation, and management of study data and review of patient records for past and present health issues. The individual in this position must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community, particularly older adults with cognitive difficulties and their families. This employee will work with confidential information and data, work directly with patients and physicians, to schedule and coordinate research appointments and examinations. Position will also require drawing and processing of blood samples in preparation of storage, analysis or shipping. Position may also require EKG administration. Position may involve sporadic travel for recruitment events, generally within the Albuquerque area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plans and coordinates the day-to day activities for multiple research trials in accordance with the specific research parameters
  2. Plans, implements and maintains accurate records and research analysis for the research trials
  3. Recruits and schedule patients for multiple ongoing research studies, ensuring protocol adherence for each specified study
  4. Collect, compile, and manage study data and review patient records for past and present health issues.
  5. Provides administrative and fiscal support to investigators and research staff; establishes budgets and financial reporting procedures, and monitors and controls expenditure.

  7. Assist in the development and preparation of required forms and working with the Human Research Protection Office (HRPO), the MIND Research Network (MRN), HSC research pharmacy, and the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC).
  8. Monitors the progress of research activities for the Department of Neurology’s and Memory Aging Center’s Research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
  9. Organizes and facilitates meetings, conferences, and other events associated with Memory and Aging; may perform and/or coordinate outreach activities, as appropriate to departments objectives.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to speak Spanish fluently

  • Working with older patients and their families

  • Working with research entities such as MRN, UNM research pharmacy, CTSC, HRPO

  • Coordinating large patient-centered research studies, particularly industry sponsored clinical trials or drug trials or large NIH studies

  • Experience utilizing Powerchart and other clinical medical records systems; working with confidential patient medical information

  • Experience working with IRB and maintaining regulatory documentation

  • Experience recruiting, scheduling and maintaining rapport with patients and their families

  • Experience drawing and/or processing blood

  • Experience administering EKGs

  • Experience administering research assessments
