The Department of English Language and Literature is seekinga highly organized, detail-oriented, energetic professional who will serve asour Sr. Scheduling Coordinator. The person who fills this role will develop andoversee the entire schedule of classes for the Department, which is one of thelargest at the College of Arts and Sciences. This person will also provide administrativesupport to the Department’s Core Writing program.

The English Department is the home of diverse academicprograms in the study of all types of literature, which include AmericanLiterary Studies, British and Irish Literary Studies, Creative Writing, MedievalStudies, Rhetoric and Writing, and Technical and Professional Communication.

The English Department employs 5 staff members and an assemblageof more than 110 instructors, including tenure-track faculty, graduate student teachingassistants, and part time instructors. In any given semester, the departmentoffers more than 250 classes to approximately 4,400 undergraduate and graduatestudents at the University. The overall mission of the English Department is toengage in writing, research, teaching and public service that advance theunderstanding of the field of English through the University and theDepartment’s academic programs.

Duties and responsibilities for the Sr. SchedulingCoordinator will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Works closely with the Chair of English Department to balance the class schedule to meet the university needs and requirements for room assignments; assigns sections for all English Faculty (34), Teaching Assistants (60), and Part-Time Instructors (20).
  • Coordinates data entry and proofread schedules for around 350 face-to-face and online classes for the Fall and Spring semesters, as well as for the Summer and intersession sessions. Prepares and maintains the Department’s portion of the College of Arts and Sciences part-time budget, which totals approximately $314,476.35 per semester.
  • Provides faculty, staff, and teaching assistants with systems training and support; assists Directors of the Department’s academic programs in the development and modification of course and section scheduling.
  • Coordinates space and seat availability for the Department’s academic classrooms, meeting rooms, and for special events such as the Fall Graduate Student and Core Writing convocations and the Spring graduation ceremony.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for the Department on a range of complex scheduling, operational, and administrative issues related to academic course offerings.

Core Writing Overview

  • Provides administrative support to the Associate Chair for Core Writing, including email correspondence, basic budgeting, end of semester grade tracking, assessment support, calls for graduate positions, Elevations publication support, organizes and facilitates teaching assistant award process, Core Writing Handbook editing, and syllabi, calendar and portfolio collection tracking and document retention.
  • Responsible for organizing and providing administrative oversight of the Fall Portfolio Rescue Workshop, the ENGL 1110Y Bypass program, the textbook scholarship committee, and the Lobo Course Placement program.
  • Updates the UNM Canvas Core Writing website and email listserv.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
