Position Summary

Coordinator Custodial Services play an integral role in Residence Life and Student Housing providing quality living experience in the residence halls.

UNM Residence Life and Student Housing endeavors to foster inclusive, community-based living environments consciously designed for our residents’ personal growth and academic success within well maintained facilities. This position contributes to the department mission by supporting the quality of the living facilities of Residence Life and Student Housing.

Under the direct supervision of the RLSH Operations Manager for Custodial Services, this position will coordinate the daily work of 10-15 custodians in multiple buildings and off campus locations including coordinating coverage, assigning work orders, ensuring daily work assignments and work orders are completed, training employees, and ensuring adequate supplies are on hand. May be required to perform custodial tasks as needed, may serve in an after-hours on-call rotation and may occasionally be required to work a weekend.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the work of other staff members as appropriate to the position; monitoring work assignments, setting schedules, and providing on-going training.
  • Inspects work areas to ensure consistency and quality of work and adherence to established procedures, safety regulations, and infection control standards
  • Ensures Customer Requests are fulfilled in a timely manner; may assist with project planning and coordination.
  • Assists with purchasing materials, supplies, and equipment; maintains applicable inventories.
  • Trains employees on cleaning and equipment techniques, methods and procedures.
  • Maintains open and cooperative communication with external vendors and suppliers.
  • Maintains records of work performed.
  • Ensures adherence to established University and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs and safety standards.
  • May perform general maintenance, custodial and trash removal tasks.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assign.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
  • Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and schedules.
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Knowledge of custodial practices, machinery and related equipment.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record work, safety and infection control standards.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.

Conditions of Employment
  • A valid New Mexico driver's license will be required if a motor vehicle must be operated on the job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish
  • Familiarity with a college or university housing operation.
  • Experience with routine work schedules
  • Experience in custodial equipment use and in training of staff
  • Experience with or basic knowledge of PC based tablet usage
  • Past leadership experience
