The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
CDD's HATCH Program has an opening for a Counselor/Social Worker. The HATCH (Helping All To Come Home) Program is within the Early Childhood Home and Family Services Division at the CDD and provides a continuum of early childhood home visiting, early intervention and clinical evaluation and treatment services to young children and families. Our programs include preventative home visiting, Part C Early Intervention targeting infants and families at risk due to adversity and trauma, and children who have endured substantiated child abuse and neglect. The Counselor/Social Workers may be assigned to work in any or all of these services providing evaluation, service coordination, intervention/treatment, and/or community-based support.
Our Counselor/Social Workers provide direct services for the HATCH Program focusing on supporting family who have a newborn hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) during their infant's hospitalization and as they transition home. Parents may self-refer to the program to obtain support around their child's hospitalization or may be referred by medical providers within the NICU setting. Services focus on supporting parents in meeting their infant's emotional and developmental needs, supporting the parent-child relationship, and helping parents access resources that will support them in meeting their child's/family's needs. Services are delivered using an evidence-informed practice with approaches that are relationship-based, trauma-informed, and developmentally-informed.
