| Position Summary | The UNM-Taos Culinary Arts certificate program teaches the knowledge, skills, and experience to obtain a career in the dynamic culinary industry. Our faculty are experienced industry professionals who teach hands-on, community-based classes highlighting best practices in Culinary Arts. UNM-Taos' program serves both traditional and non-traditional students.
The UNM-Taos Culinary Arts certificate program prepares students to enter the competitive hospitality job market with expertise in various culinary arts disciplines, such as knife skills, principles of baking, international, regional, and New Mexican cuisine, ServSafe Food Handler and Manager certifications and work-based learning opportunities.
UNM-Taos has an opening for a 1.0 FTE F9 Lecturer (open rank) in Culinary Arts (CART) - $48,000-$52,000 based on education. This faculty position isfunded will be funded by our Title V Caminos grant for career technicaleducation. Please join our dynamic Career and Technical Education department. The successful candidate will be expected to assume a teaching load of 9-12 credit hours per semester with release time/course reassignment for administrative responsibilities of coordinating the program, inclusive of instruction, course scheduling, culinary facilities coordination and culinary materials/equipment procurement, student mentoring, and/or other duties as assigned in CART. The primary duties of this position will be to teach lower division culinary arts courses and assist the program coordination, which include but are not limited to, the following:
* Internal and External Committee assignments
* Professional development activities
* Curricular and program development
* Mentoring of students
* Administrative duties as necessary
This faculty member must be willing to try a variety of instructional approaches, commit to being part of a Professional Learning Community, as well as keep regular office hours each week, and other academic duties. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to equitable student success in their teaching and the ability to partner with other faculty and staff to increase college-wide student success.

UNM-Taos professionals draw on high impact practices that increase inclusion and equity such as culturally relevant pedagogy, teaching to learn, and creating a sense of community and belonging college-wide PrincipalResponsibilities: - Prepare and teach courses in the field of Culinary Arts to a diverse student population, based on industry connected and department approved student learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to professional standards and the needs of UNM-Taos students and the Taos community.
- Participate actively in departmental responsibilities including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, and other departmental activities. Align and develop curriculum to current industry standards.
- Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting student learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
- Respond to all communications (electronic and otherwise) in a professional and timely manner (usually within 24 hours, except weekends and holidays).
- Serve as a mentor to students in the Culinary Arts program.
- Provide opportunities for students to earn industry-recognized credentials (such as ServSafe Food Handler and Manager, etc.).
- Stay current in the field by participating in professional development activities.
Support department goals through active collegial engagement in decision-making and planning. - Engage with community organizations related to the culinary field.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the program leader, dean, or other UNM-Taos administrators.
Technology: - Demonstrated proficiency in use of computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for Culinary Arts.
- Become familiar with online learning management system (CANVAS) to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.).
Professional Standards: - Meet instructional deadlines and professional requirements, including attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
- Participate in campus events, including promotional, recruitment events, graduation, and faculty orientations/faculty assembly meetings.
- Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
- Embody standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
- Comply with UNM-Taos published college policies and procedures.
