Position Summary

The UNM-Taos Facilities Department is seeking multiple On-Call custodians to assist the facilities Department and Campus events.

· The ideal candidate should:

  • Be experienced in the cleaning process and focused on building upkeep.
  • Have great physical endurance to cover large areas
  • Have a keen eye for detail and diligence
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, based on events scheduled or facilities department needs, including nights and weekends as needed.

Duties Include:

  • Performs custodial maintenance duties, including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms.
  • Sets up and breaks down conference rooms (tables, chairs, linen, etc.) according to banquet event orders and floorplan
  • Open rooms for use adjusting lights, sound volumes, and temperature as needed for each room before guests arrive.
  • Ensure proper use, storage, and maintenance of meeting room equipment.
  • Ensures high standards of safety and cleanliness in all areas of the event center.
  • Communicate any areas of need, problems, and concerns about cleanliness, safety, or guest satisfaction to supervisor
  • As needed transports, loads and unloads items needed for events between Bataan Hall and Klauer locations
  • On occasion, may assist in pick up, transport and setup catering orders on buffet tables from various locations in the community
  • On occasion, may serve as the on-site point of contact

Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Less than high school; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of and experience in the maintenance and operation of common custodial equipment (Such as buffing machines, hand power tools, and cleaning chemicals.)

Knowledge of safety procedures.

Ability to read and understand diagrams and documents for furniture set up.

Good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to receive guidance and direction.
