Position Summary

University of New Mexico Athletics Facilities is looking for on-call custodians to assist during athletic sporting events and special events at athletic facilities. This is an on-call as needed position with no guarantee of regular work schedule.

Most events are evening and/or weekend so flexible availability is a must.

  1. Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
  2. Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
  3. Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
  4. Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
  5. Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels; for positions within on-campus residence halls, responsible for reporting concerns related to on-campus residents.
  6. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  7. Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
  8. Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
  9. May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to supervisor.
  10. May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Less than high school; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
