Position Summary

PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM GallupBranch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The University of NewMexico Gallup Branch Facilities Management Department is seeking a Custodian tojoin our team. Duties and responsibilities include, but notlimited to:

  • Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
  • Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
  • Performs recycling activities
  • May replace light bulbs, adjust furniture, or similar activities as directed.
  • Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
  • Manages inventory of cleaning supplies.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

The position requires shift work,may work on-call, overtime and weekends as required. The position requiresphysical activity and exposure to indoor and outdoor elements includinghazardous materials.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Less than high school; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand, enforce and follow safety procedures
  • One or two years custodial work experience
  • Valid NM driver's licensewith ability to operate University vehicles and equipment as necessary
