The University of New Mexico Athletics Facilities team is looking for dependable, detail-oriented On-Call Custodians to help support the excitement of Lobo athletic events and special activities. If you enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and want to be part of the behind-the-scenes crew that keeps our facilities clean, safe, and welcoming - we want to hear from you!

This is a flexible, on-call/as-needed position with no guaranteed regular schedule, ideal for those seeking supplemental work. Most shifts occur evenings and weekends, so schedule flexibility is essential.

What You’ll Do:

  • Keep our athletic facilities sparkling by performing routine cleaning: dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitizing restrooms
  • Restock supplies such as paper products and soap
  • Empty trash and ensure proper waste disposal
  • Ensure facilities are secured (lock/unlock doors as needed)
  • Maintain custodial equipment and report supply needs or maintenance issues
  • Support a culture of safety and cleanliness
  • Assist with seasonal or event-specific projects and set-ups
  • Perform light maintenance (e.g., replace light bulbs, assist with snow removal)
  • Provide basic assistance to vendors and report any concerns to supervisors
  • Other duties as assigned to keep our operations running smoothly

Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Less than high school; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior custodial or facilities experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
  • Excellent reliability and communication skills
  • Experience in large event or sports venue settings is a plus
