Position Summary

UNM Golf Courses is seeking a detail-oriented, multitasking, team member with prior golf customer service experience and excellent interpersonal skills to join the team as a regular (three-quarter to full time), benefits eligible Customer Service Associate/Retail (CSA). UNM Golf Courses is comprised of an 18 hole Championship Course located near the Albuquerque International Sunport and a 9-hole North Course located adjacent to UNM Law School. The UNM golf courses are open to the public 363 days a year from sunrise to sunset. CSAs ensure sales for green fees, cart fees, range balls, rentals, passes, gift certificates and merchandise are processed accurately. CSAs are also serve as the communication center for internal and external customer inquiries; ensuring reservation information is collected correctly. CSAs not only process cash register transactions, but also promote upselling of merchandise in the golf shop. CSAs restock merchandise, implement inventory security procedures and appropriate recordkeeping. CSAs are frequently the first person a customer interacts with at the golf courses, interpersonal and customer service skills are necessary.

The individual invited to join our team must be able to work holidays, weekends and/or split shifts. UNM Golf Courses are a seven-day a week operation and are open from sun up to sun down. UNM Golf Courses are only closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and inclement weather days. This is a benefits eligible position, however, the hours scheduled will vary based on business needs and the season. During peak season (March - October), this position will typically be scheduled 40 or more hours a week. During off peak season (November - February), this position will typically be scheduled for 32 hours a week.

Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensures all cash register transactions for green fees, cart fees, range balls, rentals, passes and merchandise are entered into cash register accurately.

  • Provides excellent customer service for in-person interactions as well as phone conversations with internal and external customers.

  • Responsible for opening and closing operations, including securing all alarms, locks, doors and gates.

  • Oversees area stock and visual merchandising; participates in the development and implementation of on-floor sales promotion campaigns. Participates in club repair and alteration for the golf courses.

  • Displays merchandise and/or equipment in accordance with established policies and procedures; ensures that stock levels and displays are in accordance with established standards.

  • Completes general housekeeping cleanliness, ensures that equipment, merchandise, and facilities remain in good condition, and other duties as assigned.

  • Prepares routine daily reports such as sales, accounts receivable/payable, orders, credit card receipts, and/or bank deposits.

  • Prepares cash register reconciliation and miscellaneous routine reports.

  • Oversees the processing of routine returns and buybacks, as appropriate; coordinates the return and replacement of defective merchandise

  • Inspects equipment and facilities to ensure customer and employee safety.

  • May create displays and assist in designing marketing campaigns.

  • May train and supervise student and/or temporary employees in day-to-day customer service activities.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ten or more years of experience in the game of golf (e.g. playing experience, knowledge, and/or work experience).

  • Five or more years of experience in customer service related field of work.

  • One or more years of experience as an assistant golf professional at a green grass facility.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

  • Ability to perform club re-gripping on all golf clubs.

  • Prior experience in the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) or Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA).

  • Prior experience utilizing tee time reservation systems and golf course point of sale systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and expectations.

  • Demonstrated experience in interpersonal skills and successfully establishing relationships with other entities such as within the university.
