Finance Systems Management IT is seeking a detail-oriented self-starter with a strong functional and/or technical background and proficiency in data warehousing, data integration, advanced data analytics & reporting, to join our team. FSM-IT’s responsibilities include supporting University’s eProcurement, research proposals/awards and equipment inventory systems; University's Finance, Payroll & Research administration reporting and analytics environment and development and maintenance of Banner Finance Workflows and Applications.

FSM-IT is comprised of three teams responsible for process improvement, operational reporting and data science/advanced analytics. This role will be leading the data science/advanced analytics team. As the lead data architect and technical expert, the IT Services Specialist will draw from experience implementing on-prem and cloud-based data platforms, artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities to fully execute on the data analytics road map.

The ideal candidate is someone who brings comprehensive data engineering and data science experience and is eager to rapidly develop his or her skill set. This individual will collaborate with other technical resources on development activities and mentor staff in data management and analytics technologies. To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee will be required to work outside his/her regular working hours and on some university holidays.

Primary Responsibilities of this position:

  • Data Warehousing, Integration & Management
    • Work with vendors to extract data from our SaaS systems including Chromeriver, Cayuse, FAMIS and Jaggaer eProcurement
    • Design, development, implementation, support, and maintenance of ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) processes from Banner ERP and cloud-hosted systems including Chromeriver, Cayuse, FAMIS and Jaggaer eProcurement
    • Maintaining and enhancing dimensional data models for Finance Enterprise Metrics Dashboard, Cayuse and MySpend portal
    • Developing application and data integration workflows, APIs and MDM using Dell Boomi platform
    • Responsible for Ellucian Banner Operational Data Store (ODS) upgrades and customizations.
  • Operational Reporting
    • Providing functional/technical support, maintenance and development for Finance, Payroll & Research administration reporting, portals and dashboards using IBI WebFOCUS studio, JavaScript, jQuery and Highcharts
    • Providing technical support for Webfocus toolset and administer folder security and enhancements when needed
    • Leading and coordinating testing efforts during Webfocus and other upgrades
  • Data Science / Advanced Analytics
    • Supervise and mentor Data Science team
    • Analyze University's spend data to draw insights and identify possible cost-saving opportunities. Publish actionable insights to MySpend portal
    • Categorize spend data using machine learning models or similar techniques. Build, train, test and deploy the model and monitor for performance.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Higher education and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience designing and implementing dimensional models
  • Prior report development experience with IBI WebFOCUS or similar Enterprise reporting tools such as Cognos, BusinessObjects or Tableau.
  • Knowledge/experience with:
    • statistical and data mining techniques: Regression, Random Forest, Decision Trees, text mining, etc.
    • building machine learning models
    • Experience using web services
    • Experience analyzing data from 3rd party providers: Google Analytics, eCommerce sites, Twitter, etc.
    • Experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using: D3, ggplot, R, etc
  • Agile development process or Scrum master experience
  • Working with Ellucian Banner ODS, IA Admin, Appworx (UC4) batch job scheduling and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)
  • Working in a higher education environment


  • Fluent in SQL, PL/SQL, R, Python languages
  • Understanding of data warehouse best practices and methodologies, including Kimball, Inmon, etc.
  • Knowledge of ITIL v3 compliant ITSM tools such as Livetime
  • Strong functional knowledge of financial accounting systems
  • Snowflake cloud data warehouse or similar platforms


  • Ability to learn new software technologies
  • Ability to program in JavaScript and knowledge of Highcharts
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and complete large projects successfully
  • Ability to think analytically & support multiple priorities
  • Excellent communications skills, with the ability to work with business users as well as other members of the technical staff
