Position Summary

The Department of Geography is seeking an innovative, energetic professional who, as our Department Administrator (DA), will be responsible for the administrative and management functions of a complex unit within the College of Arts and Sciences.

The DA works closely with the Department Chair to ensure the smooth functioning of all aspects of the department's work, including financial management and planning, liaison with the College staff and development operations, with Office of Faculty Affairs & Services (OFAS), Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) and with all other pertinent elements of UNM’s central administration. The position requires an advanced level of administrative experience and skill working with all aspects of UNM’s electronic management systems.

A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the wide range of constituencies that make up the diverse intellectual community of our Department is essential.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience managing at least one of the following functional areas: fiscal services, administration and/or human resources AND 3 years of additional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree or higher.

· Experience working with Banner, MyReports, Chrome-River, E-Print, UNMJobs 2.0, and HR Reports, and Payroll systems in a UNM department involving budget management and maintaining and managing personnel records of a complex group at all levels of employment.

· Strong organizational leadership skills with demonstrated capacity to manage activities with multiple participants working on sometimes tight timelines.

· Experience with Faculty, Staff, and Student (graduate/undergraduate) management policies and processes, including all aspects of hiring.

· Direct employee supervision including performance reviews, professional development, and separation processes.

· Demonstrated record of strong, professional interpersonal skills and problem solving (i.e. team collaborations and prioritizing various projects for each Service Center unit.

· Managing budgets from multiple sources, including I&G, F&A, and Research.
