Position Summary

The University of NewMexico (UNM) School of Medicine Department of Biochemistry & MolecularBiology is seeking a dynamic administrative leader for the position ofDepartment Administrator R2. This position is responsible for theoversight and administration of programs, strategies, and initiatives designedto develop, enhance, and support the missions of a larger, more complexResearch Intensive academic department of the University, as measured by annualrevenue and number of faculty and staff.

The successful candidate willmanage and analyze $3.5M budget. The position will oversee all internaland external business activities, accounting and finance, grant administration,and human resources. It will also coordinate the administrative activitiesof the post-award contracts and grants functions of all units within thedepartment. It will manage and coordinate facility and resource management,information services, and general department administration. This position willalso participate with the Chair and senior departmental faculty in strategicand operational decision making as a member of the department's leadershipteam.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience managing at least one of the following functional areas: fiscal services, administration and/or human resources AND 4 years of additional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’sDegree in related field
  • Experience infinancial management, including budgeting, monitoring, and reporting, withproficiency in UNM systems (Banner Finance, Salary Planner, Budget Planner).
  • Humanresources experience, including hiring, supervision, onboarding, payroll,faculty lifecycle processes (recruitment, promotion/tenure, volunteerappointments), and VISA processing, with knowledge of UNMJobs.
  • Expertise inmanaging pre- and post-award grant processes with financial oversight andcompliance.
  • Exceptionalcommunication skills including experience with analyzing data and preparing andpresenting narrative reports.
  • Demonstratedability to develop and implement strategic planning
  • Facility,infrastructure, and resource management experience.
