Position Summary

UNM’s Health Sciences Center (HSC) Administration seeks a Director of Operations to oversee human resources operations and strategic workforce planning. For HSC Administration, this position provides leadership in talent management, HR compliance, employee relations, and organizational development to support the division’s mission and objectives. This role also provides administrative oversight, manages HR processes, and supports leadership in decision-making related to personnel planning, policy development, and employee engagement. As a key advisor to the Vice President of HSC Finance and Administration, the Operations Director provides oversight and coordination for complex personnel issues across the Health Sciences Center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs human resources operations for HSC Administration, ensuring compliance with university policies and applicable regulations.
  • Leads workforce planning, talent management, and HR strategy development to support operational and strategic objectives.
  • Provides guidance to senior leadership on employee relations, HR compliance, and policy implementation.
  • Collaborates with the Division of Human Resources to streamline HR services and ensure best practices in personnel management.
  • Coordinates personnel actions requests across the Health Sciences Center as assigned by the VP of HSC Finance and Administration.
  • Oversees recruitment, retention, and professional development initiatives to enhance workforce effectiveness.
  • Advises on staffing structures, succession planning, and organizational design to optimize talent utilization.
  • Manages HR-related projects, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and adherence to best practices.
  • Serves as a liaison on escalated staffing and employee relations issues, providing consultation and resolution strategies.
  • Leads initiatives to enhance employee engagement, workplace culture, and organizational effectiveness.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in HR leadership, preferably withinhigher education or healthcare settings.
  • Strong knowledge of university human resources policies,employment law, and compliance regulations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in talent acquisition, performancemanagement, workforce planning, and organizational development.
  • Proven ability to advise senior leadership on complex HRissues, including employee relations and policy development.
  • Experience managing HR-related projects, including processimprovements and strategic planning.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with theability to engage and collaborate across multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze HR data and trends to drive informeddecision-making.
