Position Summary

The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

CDD’s Early Childhood Learning Network is recruiting to hire an Education Coach/Consultant in or near Roswell, NM. This position will work out of his or her home-based office.

The successful candidate will provide intensive professional development, technical assistance, coaching, and consultation in public school classrooms throughout the state for school personnel involved in the education of preschool children with disabilities. They must have the knowledge and the ability to provide instruction (including modeling) related to the implementation of evidence based practices appropriate for classroom use and individual students. They will research, develop, prepare and deliver professional development specific to the full participation of each child in the general education setting.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of early childhood education, developmentally appropriate practice, early childhood special education, and the IDEA 619 Part B federal regulations. The candidate must also be comfortable working closely with school administrators, special and early childhood coordinators, professionals and paraprofessionals, in supporting the implementation of the FOCUS: Essential Elements of Quality and quality inclusive early childhood education for young children ages 3-5.

Possessing strong data-driven analytic ability, as well as a high level of writing, technology, and group facilitation skills is required. The successful candidate must also demonstrate a strong understanding of relationship and strengths based work and reflective practice. The job also requires a high comfort level with ambiguity and shifting priorities.

Conditions of Employment
  • May require discipline-specific licensure and/or professional certification, as specified by the department in the preferences.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Special Education.

Current Level II Early Childhood or Special Education Teaching License with at least 10 years experience working in a public school preschool classroom.

Experience working in a school district

Experience with training and providing coaching and consultation with professionals and paraprofessionals supporting preschool children with disabilities

Ability to travel throughout New Mexico

Additional RequirementsThe position will work out of his or her home-based office in or near Roswell, NM. Extensive statewide travel will be required.
