Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs facility inspections for compliance with university policies, procedures, state and federal regulations and standards to ensure the environmental health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Provides guidance and consultation to clients and lower level environmental health and safety technicians regarding hazardous materials, radiation contamination, fire safety inspections, and other related activities.

May specialize in one or more of the following areas: radiation safety, general safety, chemical safety, hazardous materials/waste, industrial hygiene, fire safety, or environmental affairs. This position will conduct building inspections, machine shop inspections, perform construction plan reviews, perform ergonomic evaluations, provide N-95 fit tests, and assist with UNM's air quality and asbestos abatement programs.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Specific personnel training is required for employees working with hazardous materials and hazardous waste.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience communicating and interacting with regulatory agencies and inspectors.
  • Excel experience and/or training.
  • Background in NFPA and OSHA interpretation and application.
  • Experience with building code and construction safety OSHA requirements.
  • OSHA 10 Certified.
  • Experience with governmental procurement processes.
  • Experience with a work order tracking system.
  • Experience with fire alarm system function, operation and testing.
