Position Summary | The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The CDD is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week), Family Specialist to support the CDD Information Network. Funded by the Developmental Disabilities Council (DDC), the Information Network connects New Mexicans to disability-related resources and events free of charge. The Family Specialist will listen, research and respond to requests for information from individuals with disabilities, their families, advocacy groups, educators and professionals who work in the field of disability. They will utilize personal experience and knowledge of community, state and federal resources to provide assistance to callers and walk-ins to the CDD Library. They will also engage in community networking events. The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications in person and over the phone. Minimum Qualifications | High school diploma or GED; at least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
Preferred Qualifications | **Be sure to address our preferred qualifications listed below in your cover letter** Proficiency and experience in responding to requests for information regarding navigation of consumer-based federal and state disability programs, services and resources, including knowledge of effective search strategies. Demonstrated expertise in effectively communicating with a wide variety of constituency groups, including people with intellectual and physical disabilities and their families and caregivers, staff of state and non-profit agencies, advocacy groups and policymakers. Expertise working with computer software, including Microsoft Office and databases. Ability to work independently to organize, prioritize and work independently on detailed projects to accomplish program goals, Experience working with persons with disabilities. Fluency in both spoken and written Spanish is preferred. |
