Under limited supervision, the Gallery Director oversees and coordinates the business operations of the Tamarind Institute gallery. The scope includes overseeing physical gallery and online sales platforms (Artsy, Instagram, and Tamarind website sales activity). The Gallery Director develops, implements, and evaluates marketing and presentation strategies for new print releases, exhibition opportunities, and special features on Tamarind programs and collaborating artists. Maintains a rotation of Tamarind editions in the gallery and develops special regional exhibitions in pop-up spaces. Works in consultation with Director to determine priorities for new releases and maintains a strong working knowledge of Tamarind history and inventory.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Coordinate activity in gallery for an annual rotation of 3-4 scheduled installations of Tamarind editions.
2. Create 4-6 viewing rooms and features annually on Artsy and online IFPDA fair.
3. Oversee planning and execution of outside art fairs and pop-up shows, including preparing checklist and wall labels, framing, packing crates, and art shipping (such as Pie Projects in alternating years; Summer Season at Los Poblanos; IFPDA in New York; Ink Miami).
4. Develop strong social media presence to stimulate print sales, create interest in new releases, announce exhibitions and special programs, and ongoing artist profiles.
5. Cultivate new collectors and capture contact information for client base, including individual collectors, museum curators, art consultants, and gallery partners.
6. Maintain regular communication with new and existing collector base through special offers, advance notice of new releases, and preview of art fairs.
7. With support from staff and student assistants, plan, develop, and organize promotional activities and materials, including announcing participation in art fairs, advertising related to print inventory, and printed materials.
8. Participate with Master Printer and Director in selection of artists for publishing projects.
9. Represent Tamarind at various community, national, and international events to promote its projects and programs.
10. Assist with public programs, including virtual and in-person artist talks, gallery and workshop tours for visitors; assist gallery visitors and oversee requests for print viewings.
11. Oversee student gallery personnel, which includes work allocation, training, enforcement of internal procedures and policies.
12. Oversee all gallery functions including, but not limited to, the management and administration of sales records and invoicing; monitor consistent sales pricing in print, web, and online platforms; establish pricing in consultation with artist and Director; respond to inquiries regarding print sales.
13. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree in related field.
* 2-3 years of gallery experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
* Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience yearly.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
* Knowledge of contemporary art and the contemporary art marketplace.
* Knowledge of social media and contemporary art marketing techniques.
* Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials about Tamarind artists and prints.
* Ability to supervise and train student employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
* Knowledge of fine art printmaking processes.
* Basic understanding of best installation and art handling practices.
* Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
* Ability to travel to attend art fairs for several days as needed.
* Ability to plan, organize and coordinate public activities and special events.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred

* Basic knowledge of WordPress.
* Knowledge of AdobeCreative Cloud, Mailchimp, and AppQuest database.
* Knowledge of secondlanguage (Spanish preferred).

Working Conditions andPhysical Effort

* Some physical activityis required, including gallery installation and art fair staffing. May requireextended periods of time standing. Handling of objects that can weigh up to 40lbs.
* Very limited exposureto physical risk.
* Work is normallyperformed in a typical interior/office work environment.
